For all my american followers and likers: Digging around the web for red,blue and white and retro-inspired finds for the spirit of tommorow’s patriotic holiday. Grilling, swimming, kickin’ back and setting off fireworks are all in the plans (I think), but why not do it in the style of our former First Lady Mrs. Kennedy?

The Drink: A simple shandy feels perfect for the 4th. Grab your favorite local beer (or at least domestic!) and add a splash of lemonade for a refreshing
treat. Since the 4th often means drinking during the day, I love these because their alcochol content isn’t as high as that of a true liquor-based cocktail.
The Food: Fire up the grill! A hot dog and hamburger bar are all you need for this holiday. It might be expected, but I think that’s a good thing when we’re celebrating a holiday that’s all about tradition. Feel free to fancy it up with fun toppings – I love the idea of having sauerkraut and chili in addition to relish, mayo, mustard and ketchup for folks to add to their hot dogs. Chopped onions, hickory sauce and grated cheese are also delicious and unexpected toppings for a burger.
The Entertainment: If it’s at all possible to be by water, make it happen! Nothing is more relaxing than sitting poolside, floating down a river or relaxing on the lake for a laid back Independence Day. Between grilling, relaxing and sparklers for the kids, everyone will be plenty occupied until the sun goes down and the fireworks come out.
